Snout raised and eyes half closed, this giraffe calf stretches its neck toward a leafy branch stretching across the top of the image, a few loose leaves already floating through the air around it. The slightly rosy cheeks and expression of eager delight give this little character a lot of personality, despite fairly simple, sparse patches on the rest of the body. The branch, with its many small, nicely regular oval leaves, offers a satisfying repetitive exercise in green, while the ground, barely sketched with a few grass tufts, allows the bottom of the composition to be finished quickly. A few extra falling leaves scattered near the ground can extend the sense of movement started by the branch above.
